Laird & Valerie Salkeld are partnering with BGCC and Wycliffe to promote, inform and educate Canadians about the need for Bible translation. Reaching the world’s unreached involves having God's Word available to them. The BGCC’s mission of “Building a network of churches that make disciples who live and spread the gospel of Jesus Christ in their communities, Canada, and the Nations” fits well with Wycliffe’ mission of Bible translation because the Scriptures translated into the mother tongue of indigenous language groups is key to plant and sustain disciple-making churches. The Salkelds joined Wycliffe and the BGC in 2001.
Laird’s role with Wycliffe is to communicate the crucial need for Bible translation to Canadian Christians to encourage their involvement. Laird uses his skills full time in Wycliffe Canada’s communications department at the Calgary office. He leads the communications team that produces many types of vision-casting media like print, web, social media and video etc.
Valerie is Team Lead for the Spiritual Enrichment Department which includes prayer ministries, which handles days of prayer, intercession and Prayer Alive magazine. Spiritual Enrichment also includes retreats, spiritual direction (one-on-one encouragement for people in their faith journeys - listening and engaging with people in their walk with God) as well as facilitating the weekly chapel time.
