FAQ

For Employers/Churches

Is it really a big deal if we enroll only our full-time pastoral staff in the plan?

Actually, it is a really big deal if by doing so you end up excluding other eligible employees (ie. Part-time staff, Administrative staff, etc.). Canadian law requires all employees that are eligible to either be enrolled in the plan or sign a Waiver Form, and a legal situation may result if this is not observed.

An employee who was enrolled in the plan has resigned from our church. What should we do now?

A Pension Notice of Termination Form will need to be filled out and submitted to BGC Canada. BGC Canada will make note of the employee termination and billing change and then forward the form to Canada Life.

One of our pastors enrolled in the plan just had a salary change. How does this affect our billing?

If an adjustment in a member’s salary has taken place, please notify the BGC Canada Finance Department. Billing/contributions are based on a percentage of the member’s earnings, so BGCC’s Accounting Department will need to be informed before any changes in billing are reflected.

FOR Employees/pastor/staff

How can I contribute money in addition to the amount that my employer is already contributing?

The simplest way for an employee to contribute extra funds to his or her own investment account is to have the church deduct the desired amount from his or her salary and then contribute those funds in addition to the amount that was already billed to them for the month. If this is your desire, you may contact BGC Canada assistance and/or a more detailed explanation.

I’ve moved. How can I change my address on file?

If you need to change your address, you can do so by emailing the BGCC Office or calling Canada Life directly at 1-800-724-3402.

My church is participating employer in the plan and I am eligible to be enrolled, however I do not wish to be enrolled in the plan. Can I waive my participation?

Yes, if you are eligible yet chose to not be enrolled in the Plan, you must sign a Pension Waiver Form and waive your rights to be enrolled in the plan.
